I'm trying to backup one Linux VM and I'm not able to do that

    Constellation on my test environment

ESXi 5 with vCenter (virtual Appliance) - all licensed

    CommServe is a VM - version 9 SP6a (Windows 2008 R2)

VSA is installed on a seperate VM on same ESX like CommServe (Windows 2008 R2) (v 9 SP6a)

VM to backup is only an exampl VM with CentOS 6.2 (Disk Level) - same ESX

    Mode: HotAdd / VADP

NFS Share where the Linux VM is stored is mounted with read-access to the VSA machine

VDDK 5 isntalled on VSA and the VM to backup

    Error in CommServe Event Viewer:

Unable to open the disk(s) for Virtual Machine [FN_LINUX_ORACLE].  Please ensure that the proxy is able to communicate with the ESX host and resolve the ESX host address.  Also verify that the disks types configured to the virtual machine are supported.

    Errors in Logfiles:

    Hi,

VixDiskLib_Open failed Err=3eb5 One or more required subsystems failed to initialize

You would have to post the VixDiskLib.log file too in order to know what's going on...

But before doing so, you are aware that the VSA comes with its own VDDK preinstalled, right?  Google seems to indicate similar issues with other backup products (i.e. Symantec), where users had to move the VDDK binaries the resolve version conflicts of the VDDK...

Have you tried running a backup without the VDDK installed separately?

    Uploaded the VixDiskLib.log

Without VDDk 5 installed seperately - same behavior.

    Hi,

the VDDK is trying to find out which transport modes are available on your setup...

What always seems to come back is this:

3700 720 06/01 08:36:00 ### diskLibPlugin: 2012-06-01T08:36:00.072+02:00 [01824 error 'Default'] Cannot use advanced transport modes for support-vcenter.frankylein.local/moref=vm-2916/snapshot-3259: Other error encountered: Invalid argument : 'C:\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\VMware' is not a directory.

Does C:\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\VMware  exist and if not, can you create this directory ?

I have not found this path on my systems, but I don't know how you set all of this up, so it's worth a try !

Hold on this is caused by a confliction of binaries on the machine.  This needs to get cleaned up.

Remove the manually installed VDDK (if not done so already)

Remove any other software that would use/install a  VDDK version (symantec/vranger ect..)

Remove all updates from this VSA agent.

    Reboot.

Install SP6a+ on the machine and re-run the backup.

If it continues to fail send the following logs:

    updateinfo.log

    vsbkp.log

    vixdisklib.log

You cannot find this on your systems because the process is crashing due to the DLL mismatch (you can see the dumpcore details in the log).

    I've done the following

De-Installed VDDK 5 which was manually installed

Removed a backup-software client which was installed for testing purposes

    Removed SP6a

    Reboot

    Re-Install SP64

    Started Backup

    Backup is now running !!

    TO BE CONTINUED !!!!

Vincenzo is right, the core dump mentions that dll's from a VDDK installed in C:\Program Files\Legato\nsr\bin\

It seems you have been toying around with Legato previously :-)   Hence the conflicts...
