  • how to provision non-admin end user as the only laptop owner

    Hello,

this thread is a bit related to this one: http://forum.commvault.com/forums/54089/ShowThread.aspx#54089

Now the situation is as follows:

    - installation of laptop package on a laptop initiates a common end user who is NOT between laptop admins

    - package is pre-prepared as MSI package with hardcoded "Run As" admin account

    - the customer does not want to use EnumUserProfiles setting to set up all laptop profiles as owners

Is there a way to setup this non-admin end user who launched the installation as the only laptop owner? It seems that the only way is to create local group on each laptop and set this user as a member. Then use ClientGroupForLaptop set to this group.

Other ClientGroupForLaptop values resulted in "Run As" admins, or all profiles, to become owners.

    Regards

    Michal

Owners can be automatically detected using other local groups too, like "Power Users", "Users", "Backup Operators"

In SP9, if you are using plans in the admin console, we can automatically detect users who are currently logged in. No group association or reg keys required, just AD. All this happens automatically if the "Run As" user is in this excluded group:

    Hello,

is there a documentation about this ("auto detect users who are currently logged in", so it means users who download the package are considered as owners)? Or a more detailed description.

    Thanks/Regards

That documentation is coming as part of service pack 10.

I can tell you that it rides on Edge Monitor. When Edge Monitor loads, after a user has logged in, it will discover if you are supposed to be owner or not.

If someone is already owner, it wont add any new users.
