    HI Guys,

We currently have Capacity Licence setup and we are looking archiving 18TB of data. This is something we have not done previously.

My question is. Do we need to buy 18TB of Archive licence. and if so will that mean our capacity Licence post archival of data will be 18TB less.

    Thanks in advance!

Yes.   You need to buy 18 TB of archiving license. You should see a drop in you backup license consumption post archiving.

but EX database is not shrinking by itself after moving emails to archive. So is CV substracting used capacity by itself ?

The data which previously was consuming your Capacity is still being held most likely if you're meaning to say the overall capacity is not dropping.

If thats the case, you'll need to either deconfigure the subclients which are no longer needed for regular backup or wait till the data is aged

If this isn't whats happening, if you could clarify with some screenshots and ensure the License Summary Report is properly reporting.

Capacity license considers the size of last full backup on your EXDB.  so see whether the full backup has reduced in size or not.  It it has, license summary report gives you breakdown of capacity license by subclients.
