I know that the space requirements for upgrades are contained here:
    https://documentation.commvault.com/commvault/v11/article?p=2621.htm
but it would be useful if you could also list the expected growth post-install.

The article above was identical for the v11 SP10 upgrade, but post-upgrade there was actually a small decrease in space used on the clients and these requirements appeared to be an overhead needed *during* the upgrade. This led to weeks of having the change request denied before an issue forced our hands into implementing the upgrade (and I'm experiencing the same thing for the SP11 uplift). If I could have the post-install sizes available, I'm hoping I'll be spared some of the pain :P

How much space are we talking about? Is it just win fs ida having an issue? Are other idas installed?

So far I've seen the same behaviour on every service pack upgrade; a doubling more or less of space needed during the upgrade and then, once complete, a wholely new space requirement value, whether less or more than before; sometimes by significant amounts. This behavior seems to be universal but was most pronounced with the Oracle iDA (or possibly that was just the one under the most scrutiny).

The space requirement during uprade depends on several factors including the number of hotfixes that are part of the service pack upgrading to. Also, during installation, windows installer copies the binaries to its cache to perform the service pack installation. After the upgrade is complete the space will be freed-up freeing some space. Which means during the upgrade we need more space than just the size of installation media itself. So our upgrade space recommendations are computed keeping all this in mind to avoid any failures during upgrade.
