I have a large number of clients on the Commserve (> 500).

When I install updates, the Commserve will only start an upload for 1.

Is there a possibility to increase this number? Or to have all clients be updated in parallel?

    Thank you.

    If it jams, force it.
If it breaks, it needed replacing anyway.

    Hi Dannie,

The upload runs single stream to maximize the upload speed of the update packages from the CS to the client.   Once the updates are copied to the client it moves on to the next client while the first starts the actual update install.  The install will then run concurrently on all clients as each upload completes.  If the CS were to stream the updates to all the clients concurrently the throughput would potentially be quite negatively impacted, and result with potential problems (timeouts, packet loss etc).

The point is, I don't want any clients waiting while a client which has a buggy NIC / packet loss and everything waits until it's got the entire servicepack.

    I came up with this:

    # ./qlist client | awk '{print $1}' | while read client; do
    > ./qoperation automaticupdate -c $client
    > done

    From a Linux machine.

It's a little (well, very) crude, but it does what I want; update ASAP.

The Commserv here has a gigabit interface, while most clients are still at 100Mbit. So I figured it can handle the extra load.

Clever, we were able to use Microsoft SMS to install 6.1 clients to help run many installs at a time.  Haven't tried updates though.
