We had a group of tapes that were sent off site. Since then, we had a request for those tapes to be preserved. We couldn't put those tapes in the protected media group since they were off site. Some of the tapes in the list are showing expired and unprotected. These tapes have not been loaded into the rotation as of yet and are write-protected. Is the data on these tapes useless now?

Hello Seany, There is a way to perform restores from aged media. Read the information in the below link and let us know if this is what you are looking for.

    http://documentation.commvault.com/commvault/release_8_0_0/books_online_1/english_us/features/restore/aged_data.htm

Also note: If you would like to preserve such media and the metadata associated with it, you can move them from the Scratch Pools to the Overwrite Protect Media Pool and keep the media outside the library. This will prevent the media from being overwritten, thereby allowing you to restore the data from the media at any time.

    Hi SeanyA,

As per mspencer's post above, you can still restore from that media, also, you can mark the media as protected within Commvault so that even if/when they do go back into the library, they will not be overwritten:

    http://documentation.commvault.com/commvault/release_8_0_0/books_online_1/english_us/features/library_operations/media_pools/media_by_groups.htm#Saved_Media

    Hope that helps.

    cheers,

    Will

Hello Seany,  Is this the answer you were looking for.  Do have any more questions we could answer for you?  If that is all if you could do me a favor and mark the item solved that best answered your question so others can benefit from the answer.  Thanks Seany
