    General deduplication question.

I attended a deduplication seminar recently and the speaker had mentioned something that I can not find any facts/offical info on. What he stated was that Simpana/Commvault deduplication is limited to a MAX size of 32TB for each pool and a MAX of 3 pools per environment(Commcell?) Has anyone heard of this? and does anyone have any supporting "official" documentation stating such?

If it matters I'm running Commvault V8SP4

    Thanks,

    Hi G54B,

32TB is the maximum size of deduplicated data (post dedup) stored on disk for a dedup policy configured at 64k block size.

There is no documented limit to the number of policies you can have in a commcell. The 3 policies per commcell is not correct. The speaker was most likely referring to 3 policies per media agent or 3 dedup databases per media agent which is a good rule of thumb. The dedup databases must each be stored on their own high speed LUNs to support the max capacity.
