I'm trying to test a DR recovery as if our whole computer center was destroyed.  I'm starting by having a server with no CommVault software installed on it but the latest DR backup files and license file on it.  This server has no network connection.  I attempt to run the setup.exe file to install the CommServe software and I get the message: Setup failed to get local host name.  Is this due to the absence of a DNS server, domain controller and/or WINS server?  If so, how can I install the CommServe in such a situation where everything is destroyed?

    Hello mjhritz,

You can add an entry to the host file to resolve the commserve name which should allow you to get passed this roadblock.

I have two enties in the host file for the commserve (both the old and the new, which is the server I'm trying to install the software on) but it doesn't seem to help.

But, Ha! I found the problem.  The network interface needs to be enabled, but disconnected.  I had the nic disabled.

    Thanks
