    1. Primary copy is on disk.  Basic retention is 15 days, 1 cycle.

    2. Secondary (long-term) copy goes to tape.  Basic retention is 15 days, 1 cycle.

Extended retention is weekly full - 28 days, monthly full - 1 year, yearly full - 7 years.

    3. DASH copy goes to offsite disk library.  15 days, 1 cycle.

The Secondary copy to tape is falling behind due to tape library drive capacity restraints.  Some jobs remaining to be copied are 30 days old.

Does the data on the Primary still age?  Or does it wait for the secondary copy to complete?

    Thanks.  Gerry

    Gerry,

The primary data will not age until the jobs are copied onto the secondary copy.  The Data Retention Forecast and Compliance Report can be run on this storage policy which will show the job not aging due to "Not Copied".

If you can accept not having all of the data copied to the secondary copy, there is an option you can use.  On the Aux Copy properties, check the Copy Policy tab.  Uncheck All Backups and change the date to whatever date you want the Aux copy to copy from.  You may have 30 days worth of backups to collect, but only 15 days of retention.  To be safe, add 7 days to that time frame, but this might help you save some Aux Copy time.

As an example, if you have 15 days of Aux Copyretention and uncopied jobs going back to Jan 1 (and it is 2/16), you can change the copy policy tab date to 2/1.  I would add 7 days to the time frame to include extra Incrementals, but even putting 1/25 saves time copying jobs that will age off instantly.
