I had a question that hopefully someone can answer. We are using Simpana 8.0 SP4 and have our dedupe database (DDB) on a standalone server which also houses our Shared Index Cache. These are the only things on this specific server. (SAN attached, WIN2008 64bit 16GB RAM) Anyway, the question is if that server were to crash/die/explode, what impact would that have on our existing backup data in the library. I understand that new jobs would create a new DDB store and a new index cache but what about restoring the old data? If we lost the DDB, would the data still be readable for restores? Would it have to be rehydrated? Should I be backing up the DDB for DR purposes? In the event of losing your shared index cache and DDB or even your Commserve too and all you had was your new Commserve recreated from your DR data files and your library, could you restore your data without the old DDB or Shared index cache?

    Thanks for your help.

Eric, the DDB is used for backups and data aging only. All data is still recoverable and will be also be rehydrated when restored. The Index Cache will be restored as well.
