I am running Simpana 8 SP5 with a single yet powerful server (2x 4 Core CPU's with 16GB Ram running 2008 R2) acting commcell, SQL Server and Media Server.  The problem I am experiencing is the network throughput over a number of hours drops from 70-80% of a 1 GB link to 4-5%.  I can improve this by continuously restarting the media service.  The throughput then resumes.

I am initially storing my backups on a Datadomain appliance.  Though I have tested and eliminated this as a bottleneck.

The problem can be brought on quicker by running an AUX copy at the same time as a backup.

You may want to check out the MS KB article link below to see if this makes any difference:;EN-US;982383

    Hi JW,

Thank you for your suggestion.  I have applied the update but the issue still is present.  I have noticed that the Cmountd process memory utilisation shoots up from 20,000kb to over 150,000kb.  This coincides with a dramatic network throughput drop.  I I kill all the jobs and just run a single backup it will run extremely slowly <7gb p/h.  If i then do a stop start on the media service I will see a dramatic increase up to 50gb p/h.

i am trying to backup around 80 servers (inc VM's) through this server.  Running 30 jobs at once.

Would gridstor and an additional media server be a solution?
