    I've been getting this error recently for the backup of one of my servers.  I have read previous forum posts, and everything appears to be correct.  I ran the vssadmin commands that were suggested in a previous post, and the log produced indicates that everything appears correct (a 'system writer' is showing with no errors):

    Writer name: 'System Writer'
    Writer Id: {e8132975-6f93-4464-a53e-1050253ae220}
    Writer Instance Id: {73ba37a9-14e7-413d-bf06-dff00329836c}
    State: [1] Stable
    Last error: No error

    Are there any other suggestions? We are running version 9.0.0 Build 84.

    Greetings, guessing you are on the latest Service Pack as well?

    This looks to be a duplicate post, but this should cover it:

    You can set a filter for the subclient : {File Server Resource Manager}, including these brackets, this will skip FSRM. The "File Server Resource Manager" is a suite of tools that allows administrators to understand, control, and manage the quantity and types of data stored on their servers. So if you don't backup these, they can be re installed if this should be needed in case of a server restore or a system state restore. Typically this error occurs when the component is installed but not configured as the FSRM Writer returns no data when queried.

    Also, the System Writer you have listed in the original question is the writer for the System Protected Files, The FSRM has its own writer with the same name. Are you recieving an error in regards to System Protected Files?

    I'm not getting any errors on the FSRM writer, either.  I did set the filer for the subclient, and am no longer getting this error today.  The regular backup is working just fine, so this has solved my problem.

    Thank you!
