Through the years we've had backup admins uncheck either vss or system state when problems occurred with a backup.  We were forced to restore from backup a few production machines and noticed system state was not checked.   Is there any way to verify that both of these boxes are checked other than manually going down through 800 hosts and verifying.

Also, do most of you create separate subclients for system state or do you just back it up with the default subclient.

    thank you

I think that a SQL script may be the best way to check which subclients have both options checked.

Customer support should be able to help with that.

I think the seperate sub client recommendation stopped after 6 when the full ida restore process changed. The same sub client should be fine.

This XML will get you those parameters accross the CommCell.  What you will need to do is edit the XML to include the Group parameters, and run the command against the temporary Group where you can pull in all the clients that you want to check

qoperation execute -af <Path of GetSubclient.xml> -clientGroupName "xxxxx"

Also yes, by default VSS is checked, an for WIN2K8 its a must I believe from a OS standpoint and restore requirements even rather than a Simpana requirement.
