    newbie here...

     

    I like to know how much space is consumed by a specific client?  For all retention policies.

    Hi mathews, hope you are well.

    Could you you confirm version and service pack of Simpana also are you backing up to disk/tape, and if disk is the copy deduped?  Are you also looking for Application size or Size on Media which are tracked uniquely?

    version 10 sp 7. we have backups to both disk and tape. disk is deduped. I'm looking for a report on the backup media consumed by clientxyz.

    Also this isn't a straight forward caluculation, especially with Deduplication as a block on disk could reference multiple clients and backups, more on this concept below.  What's the end goal for these numbers to be used for?

    Objective is backup resources expense chargeback by client computer

    Would suggest to look into the latest Cloud reporting features, there are some ready-made Chargeback reports in there, and usually done based on the Application size, not space consumed.  With Deduplication that space consumed will be nearly improbable to determine.
