    Hi,

We have an aux copy that continues to suspend itself for the past few days, the message that we get says " The drive handle specified does not exist".  We have no idea what this means.

And it only seems to keep happening to the same aux copy which is SP_Special_I.

    Please advise.

Are there any errors in the Windows Event logs on the MediaAgent server?

I forgot to ask.  What version and service pack level are you on?

I am checking the M.A. logs now.

Hello,  Drive handle specified does not exist usually means there are tape drives not properly being seen by the Operating System hosting the tape drives.   Are these Unix MediaAgents hosting the drives?  If so what version of Unix/Linux?

Thanks for the log file snippet.  Are there any errors in the OS Event Logs?  You may also want to check and see if the tape drives are not being seen by the OS (in Device Mgr)

    HP-UX 11.11.

When you say OS Event Logs..how might I do that?

Is this a dedicated MediaAgent hosting the tape drives or is it hosting critical application (i.e  Oracle DB), or are you able to reboot the MediaAgent itself?  If this is the MediaAgent hosting the tape drives then my guess is it is not seeing the tape drives anymore or the drivers are not bound anymore to the device(s).  In HP-UX you can run ioscan -k to see if the tape drive can be seen at all.

Once the OS can see the tape drives we should be okay with the Auxcopy.

Can i do this ioscan right in EMC Ionix?

Not familar with EMC Ionix but I assume it allows you to execute commands remotely.  If you post the output of ioscan -k here we may be able to determine if OS is seeing drives.  (omitting any info that is propriitary to your company)  Also can you confirm the following

1.) Are the tape drive in question attached to this HP-UX MediaAgent?

2.) What type of drives are they? (eg.. Ultrium, DLT)

3.) Does this MediaAgent control the arm of the library

    4.) Output of ioscan -k

If problem persists, you might want to contact the Unix Admin of this machine or HP as they can also help get drive detected.

    Thanks
