Is there any way to reflect the true stub size in the client files system?  We don't want the stub to show the size of the file it replaced but instead  we want it to show its ture size at 4K.  There is some question as to what Windows quotas are going to do on the client when the the files are stubbed but the amount of available disk space doesn't change.

The file's reported "Size" will not be updated when the file is stubbed and it's attributes modified to save space. When the software sets the sparse attribute, it will update the files "Size on Disk". This is how the operating system handles stub files, and it all on the Windows side. You will need to review the Windows quotas reporting settings, and modify the reporting to examine the "Size on Disk" on the systems files.

To further explain the attributes set on a stub file:

    • Reparse - stores metadata about the whereabouts of the actual file once it has been migrated off primary storage
    • Offline - tells the operating system and applications that a file has been migrated and the data is not immediately available; it should expect that the file may take some time to be retrieved.
    • Sparse - Allows the file to be space efficient. To the application, the file may appear to consume space however it should consume almost zero space on disk.
