    Hi,

    We've just upgraded to CommVault 11SP5 from v10 SP14.

The behaviour of Vmware and Intellisnap backups seems to have changed. We used to exclude all our RDMs using disk filters at the backupset level. Last night when our first set of backups ran lots of the backup copies failed with the error:

Error creating Virtual Machine snapshot.  Please check the Virtual Machine snapshot tree. An error occurred while taking a snapshot: 19 (No such device).

I realised this was for VMs with RDMs that had been filtered out so removed the filters expecting the disk just to be skipped as the documentation is quite clear physical RDMs can't be backed up (and we dont want them to be either).

Now when i run a snapshot and backup copy, snapshots are created on the compellent arrays of the RDMs which then get mounted up on the proxy server when the backup copy runs.

What can be done to stop this happening? I can't use vm disk filters as it just causes the error above and documentation is quite clear these can't be used with intellisnap anyway.

    Hi ,

To my surprise ,i still believe that commvault doesn't support vmware backups of Physical RDM ,athought it's supported for VRDM.

Turns out this is a bug in CV11 SP5. Feature may be exposed at a later date but no time line.

Going to obtain diagnostic fix from CommVault support
