    Hello,
I'm deploying a mail archiving solution by using the new Exchange Mailbox agent.
My primary archive storage  is a disk library. Now customer wants to duplicate archived e-mails from disk library to a tape library and store archived e-mails on tape for, say, 3 years.
I wonder if mail recall function works ok if the requested e-mail is stored on tape only?
Does recall process happen in an unattended manner or an intervention of backup admin is required?

The problems usually are when the tapes aren't in the library, this also makes it tediously long for the end user recalling the file as there won't be an indication.

Suggest to keep the secondary copy as well on disk, it will be faster and less administration, unless you have to go to tape, it should work.

    Hello Ali,

Well, ok. In case a user makes a recall and the archive tape is in the library, the archived e-mail is directly recalled from tape or it first transfered to the disk library?

First it should try the primary, and for that ensure you have the Control Panel --> Browse & Recover option checked to "Automatically switch copy..."

In the event the primary copy is indefinitely offline you can promote the tape copy, then make another copy to disk and then promote it back.

    Hello Ali,

Well, let's consider the following scenario. The primary copy is kept for a month where as secondary copy on tape is kept for 3 years. If an end-user request a mail that is located on tape, is the administrative intervention needed for copy switching?

As long as the tape is in the library, admin intervention is not required.
