MAC OS X Client Backup failed

  • MAC OS X Client Backup failed

    Hi all,

    i got a problem saving Files from a MAC OS X Client Server.

    File Services Client Agent Installation using push-installation from CommCell Server.

    CommVault Version 11

    "check readyness" Success.

    Process Manager on Mac Client shows all Services "up and running".

    Telnet from Commcell Server and Backup Media Agent to Client MAC on Port 8400 ist successful.

    ifind process on MAC Client runs and completes successfully.

    But after starting the Backup Job, FileSystem Agent, get the following error message:

            Error Code: [10:2]
    Description: Unable to communicate with the remote machine [x.x.x.x] to start the Data Pipe. Please check the network connectivity between the local machine and the remote machine and verify this product's Communications Service is running on the remote machine.

    Hi Michael,

    First a couple quick questions...   the fact that the scan completes tells me that the CS to client communication appears fine.  What you need to check is the MA communication to the client. 

    I'm assuming here that the CS is not a MediaAgent.

    Check the communication  and make sure there is no firewall between the servers.  If there is a firewall, then you would need to set the network port configuration in Commvault to establish the communication between the MA and the MAC client.   I have seen a number of issues where there is a firewall in use, but the firewall rules established in Commvault were only configured between the CS and client and the MA wound up being overlooked...

    See if you can ping the client from the Ma, and visa versa.  Also make sure that DNS is resolving properly between the two servers as well.
