I am wondering if I can build two standby commserves.

Production site - clustered for failover with floating CS name.

Offsite - warm standby in the event of a disaster that requires relocating operations to our DR location.

I already have a standby Commserve IP license. I had always planned on using it for the offsite commserve. However, I believe it would be better to use it for the cluster since it's more probable it will be utilized than for the offsite commserve.

    Any thoughts?

We're considering doing the same thing except we are not planning to cluster the production site. Too much of a headache. We'd still have the standby server licensed in the DR location receiving the DR backups, but we would also setup scripts and schedules for SQL log shipping to the secondary server in the production site. It would basically act as our operational failover server.

If your'e talking of a "cluster" for ptoduction, this Microsoft failover cluster group will be associated w/ only one IP, that is moving within the cluster together with the CV services.

This still leaves you one more IP for your Offsite DR CommServe.

Request the license for your "CV failover cluster group" IP and your Offsite IP to solve your problem.

Please assign a dedicated IP to the CV service group in addition to the disk and service resources and do not use the basic "Cluster Group IP"
