We run several reports every morning to various teams about the previous nights backups.  Sporatically a random report will fail.  The only reason given in the logs is:

Set pending cause [Could not create output file for report.]

If I run the report manually after that it works just fine and will run again for several days or weeks.  There doesn't seem to be any pattern or space issues that would cause this.  Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

Full error below: (server name changed)

Is there anything in the scheduledReport.log file? Job Manager is just reporting the error received from scheduledReport.exe.

I do see it seems to be unable to process because it is already in process.

8144 3944 04/04 08:00:04 76587 fileAndWebSetup() - The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.

    8144 3944 04/04 08:00:04 76587 CRT error = 13, Report file name = C:\Program Files\Commvault\ContentStore\Reports\Backup Job Summary for Last 24hrs (Detailed).html
    8144 3944 04/04 08:00:04 76587 EvReportMgr::onGenerateReport() - fileAndWebSetup failed

Is there a limit to how many reports can be scheduled at a time?

    Thanks for the help.

I see Bheemesh replied below. He is the man for reporting questions Smile

There is not a hard and fast limit on the number of reports scheduled simultaneously. However, a potential workaround is to separate the report schedules by a few minutes so that one report completes before the next report starts. If the report schedules need to run at the same time, I would make sure you are on the most recent service pack and open a case with support to have this escalated to development for a long-term fix.

    HI,

Please look for the line that has the following words in ScheduledReport.log file and send us couple of lines above and beyond this line to see what's happening.

    "CRT error = "

The issue seems to be an error while creating the output file. Will know bettwe once I see what the error code is.

    Thanks,
    Bheemesh

    It says 13.

    8144 3944 04/04 08:00:04 76587 CRT error = 13, Report file name = C:\Program Files\Commvault\ContentStore\Reports\Backup Job Summary for Last 24hrs (Detailed).html

The output file name I see in this logfile "Backup Job Summary for Last 24hrs (Detailed)" is not system generated. Are you using the same output file name in multiple report schedules? Can you double check your report schedules and make sure you use different output file names for each one?

    Thanks,

    Bheemesh

I just went through each schedule name and Custom Report Name.

For each schedule name it is different.

However, in the Custom Report Name field on the Output tab, some were blank.  Is it possible that the "blank" is the name being used multiple times?  I made sure they are no longer blank.  One caveot is that a report that failed this morning was one that wasn't blank.  So my theory may not hold.

Thank you so much for your help, this has been very helpful in troubleshooting so far.

When the name is blank, we use system generated file name like below which contains processId, UnixTimestamp so the file names don't clash.

    BackupJobSummaryReport_138630_5260_1491319875.html

Is your Commcell connected to Commvault cloud? What is your CommcellId?

No we are not configured for the cloud.  We are a financial institution and it is not allowed.

I do see those file names in the directory as you indicated.  Now that I've changed all the custom names, it will be interesting to see tomorrow what the report names say.

    Thanks

Reports ran successful this morning.  I will keep an eye on them and report back if they don’t, but I believe that was the issue.

    Thank you very much.
