I would like to configure a workflow to do the following when doing DB maintenance on the Commserve i have about 20 media agents that need to log in to stop services and put them in manually. Then after DB maintenance is complete the workflow would start services and put them back in automatic. I would like to be able to do this automatically via a workflow has anyone had any luck doing this.

Hi, If you are regularly doing db maitenance then you dont really need to do all that.

Software has a default DBMaintenance workflow, recommendation is to schedule it once a week. I have it scheduled for Sunday 3PM when the activity on the commcell is lowest. No need to suspend backups to do this.
When a service pack is being installed, we run DBMaintenance with required parameters.

Does DBMaintenance workflow stop the commvault services on all of the media agents first before the DBMaintenance starts?  Does it automatically restart the media agents and commserve?

No, it does not stop and start the media agents. You dont need to stop MAs if you are already scheduling it to run when the number of running backups are small.

I thought the media agents commvault services had to be stopped before you run dbmaintenance.exe

Can it be setup to stop the media agent services? before the dbmaintenance.exe runs.

No, they dont need to be stopped. You can stop the MA services also but then restarting them will require a psexec or wmi command to be run. An alternative could also be to simply put the media agents in maintenance mode.

CommVault is installed on the E drive.  Just wondering if the defautl workflow is configured with CommVault being installed on the C drive

There is no need to stop the services on a Media Agent when running DB Maintenance on the Commserver unless you are saying you have 20 separate Commservers that you manange and are looking for a way to do this on all of them.

If that isn't the case and you want still want to stop the services of the Media Agents with a workflow, you can use Powershell script that can stop the services for you and start them when needed.
