  • Adding Tape Library - On it's own Media Agent?

We want to add a tape drive to the mix, so that we have backups that are physically separated from our existing network.  We have 2 physical locations now, with a Media Agent at each location.  The tape library that we'll be using is an external unit.  Is there any requirement that it be on it's own, dedicated MA, or can it be attached to an existing MA?

Should be no problem adding it to an existing Media Agent.  Just go to "Expert Storage Configuration" from in the Java Console "Storage" tab.  then in the resulting pop up window, select the MediaAgent in question, and from the "Start" button, select "Detect Library"  As long as the device can be seen by the OS you should be able to configure the device as a library in Commvault.

    Hi John

For Tape Library configuration, I would also recommend to check the CommVault Compatibility Matrix (https://ma.commvault.com/Support/CompatibilityMatrices), so you have all the correct firmware versions installed on the Tape Library, OS and CommVault.

    Thank you
