    Hi all,

We've got a 5TB fileserver vm that seems to be lagging behind and not finishing on time.

Are there any settings we can check to have the backup for this to start earlier or at least improve the performance of this?

    Thanks!

Can you provide more information please.
    Such as:

    • Disk Layout of the VM
    • Backup method, SAN, HotAdd or NBD?
    • VMWare or Hyper-V?
    • Is this the only VM in the Subclient or combined with more?
    • Static proxy defined in subclient or coordinator proxy defined on instance level?
    • How many readers are defined in the Subclient?
    • What is current thruput of the backup?
    • What is the duration of the backup?
    • What is your backup window?
    • Are you using incremental backups or are we talking about full backups?

    1x 4TB drive

    1x 300GB drive

    2x 250GB drive

    HotAdd

    VMware 6.5

3 subclients in total for the vcenter, default and 2 clusters - the fileserver is on the larger of the clusters

Not sure where to check for static/coordinator proxy setting

8 readers on VM cluster subclient that holds fileserver VM

    Throughput is 450-750GB/hour

    Duration is 8-12hours

    Backup window 10pm-8am

    Incremental backups during the week

I am assuming the proxy has a 1Gbit link?
What is the network capacitity, 10Gbit?

Are multiple jobs running via this proxy or is this a dedicated proxy for this backup?

Is this proxy a default 4 core 4 GB setup?

Edit: Sorry old defaults, currently the small vsa should be: 2 vCPUs 24 GB
I would personally prefer 4 vCPU

    10Gbit link, same as network.

Multiple jobs, this is just one of the VMs of the 2 VM cluster sub clients.

There are 80-90 other VMs in this backup job.

    2x 4 core with 32GB memory.

If that is the largest VM in the subclient then it should be getting started first.  If that is not the case then can you include a vsbkp.log and we can see why?

Yes, it is the largest vm on the subclient.

Is there a specific location for this? I've been trying to locate the log file but cannot find it.
