    Greetings!

We are trying to implement IntelliSanp backup (NetApp filer used) for our Exchange server.

We have virtualized environment with VMWare 6.5 and use NFS datastores on NetApp filer as our primary VM storage.

With this setup we are unable to do any snaps at application level as is Exchange client.

Support ticket 170925-282 we had stated that only usage of pass-through devices, such as RDM ( https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/1010789 ), can give us ability to do IntelliSnap backup.

As we experimented with in-guest iSCSI we aslo have failures with app snaps. Same for NFS storage.

The question is - how to plan VMWare VM storage configuration for IntelliSnap to be able to do snaps for applications? Is RDM the only option?

I would greatly appriciate advice on this. Thanks!

In guest iSCSI should work fine.  Did you work with support on that issue at all?

Are you able to get the VSA agent working with Intelisnap and these VMs?  If so you could look into performing application aware backups with intellisnap on these Exchange clients.
