Just incase this is useful to someone else:
As java webstart is no longer supported, this info applies only to commcell UI installed using either the download/installer from the commvault website, OR a custom installer package on Windows.
We are currently on CV11 SP13. For commcell UI installs, the full Java 8 SE package is installed by the commvault installer. The Java binaries are also copied into \commvault\content store\jre. The Commcell Console uses the java binaries in \commvault\content store\jre.
To ensure we always comply with the new licencing, Oracle Java 8 can be uninstalled from the system via the windows control panel> add/remove programes and the Commcell UI will continue to function.
Of course any other java software you have may now stop working.

Java 10 is considered end of life, you cannot get security updates for it: https://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jdk10-downloads-4416644.html
Commvault installer will put Java 10 binaries into \commvault\content store\jre and doesnt install any system wide java support like SP13 did. Ive also swapped in the OpenJDK11 to the JRE folder and it appears to work.
Just as an FYI - Java 9 is not supported in SP14. (http://documentation.commvault.com/commvault/v11_sp14/article?p=1514.htm).
CV11 SP15 uses OpenJDK11. It puts the OpenJDK binaries into the \commvault\content store\jre folder. Moving forward, if we wanted to keep this instance of java up to date, we simply swap in the latest OpenJDK from their website.
Just to clarify - OpenJDK doesnt have any installer, auto updater, or configuration app in the control panel. They just provide a set of files in a zip file you can then extract and point java files at.
