  • Automatically send only the last full backup to tape

    Hello there!

We are attempting to configure one auxiliary copy so that only the last full backups are copied to tape. Currently this auxiliary copy runs every 15 days, and it is configured as selective copy to select weekly fulls and copy the last full backup. However it will then copy every full backup that was performed after the previous aux copy job ran.

Is it possible to configure it so it will only copy the last available backup?

    Hi Renan

As shown in your screenshot, when you configure Selective Copy, you should select:

    • Weekly Fulls
    • Define the day when the week starts
    • Choose "Last Full Backup"
    • Chosoe "Wait until the current period is over before selecting a backup for the time period"

By selecting the option "Wait until the current period is over before selecting a backup for the time period", this will ensure only the last backup will be select for Aux Copy for the week.

    Kind Regards

    Winston

    Thank you, Winston!

I have applied the configuration, however i haven't seen any changes on the jobs that were already automatically selected. Is there a way to force the aux copy on the storage policy to recheck which jobs it is supposed to get?

    Hi Renan

With the previously selected jobs, you will need to manually mark them as "do not copy"

To confirm the correct jobs are being selected, please monitor till the next period (next week) to confirm

Otherwise another test that you can look at doing is creating a new Copy (with a Start Date of last week), and see if it correctly picks up the desired job (this copy is testing and can be deleted afterwards)

    Regards

This is correct, the option must be set within that storage policy. Also when complete you should run a manual data age. that seems to force it quicker

You can run a data on media forcast report. It will reflect any retention changes that you make. They won't lock in until data aging is run, so you'll be able to see what tapes are held for extended retention.

    Hi Renan & mmagbee

Running Data Aging after making the changes to the Copy is also correct as it helps to update the logical status of the Jobs and assocaition to Storage Policy

Give the above a try and also monitor the next sequence of Selective Copy selection to ensure it meets your needs and requirements.
