For one of our clients, we created an On-Demand Backup Set, a Directive File, and a Content File according to the documentation. We choose to retain all of the Jobs for 5 years. Job-Based Retention (Advanced Subclient Properties of default > Extend storage policy retention). After a successful job, at Job History, the column Retain Until is not showing an expected date and Retained By shows Basic Retention.

I was reviewing the documentation and found somewhere that Job Based Retention (Advanced Subclient Properties > Extend storage policy retention) doesn't allow full or synthetic full backups. And subclient from On-Demand Backup Set only accepts (Traditional) Full Backups.

Does it explain why a successful job is retained by Basic Retention rules (Job History column) instead of Extended Retention rules like those I defined to subclient (5 years)?

I opened a ticket with Commvault, but I would like to see your comments on that.

Can you run a Data Retention Forecast Report on this storage policy/copy and verify if the advanced retention set is reflected accurately?

We have an open request to address this in a future service pack, that the advanced subclient retention may not reflect in the job history (which is a display issue and not an actual retention issue) but the data retention forecast report is expected to be the more accurate retention forecast of your data. You can verify if the report is reflecting your 5 year retention.
