    Greetings --

Concern has arisen at my site over dozens of Files failed to back up, The system cannot find the file specified messages.  Many of these mention Microsoft Windows Cortana and are similar to this:

(Files failed to back up)[C:\Users\DoeJohn\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Windows.Cortana_cw5n1h2txyewy\LocalState\ConstraintIndex\Apps_{5c38acb7-30f7-4622-9c2f-dec860ab4239}\] The system cannot find the file specified.

Client is File Agent V11 SP13+ on Windows Server 2016 version 1607 with lots of remote users. Our lead sysadmin warned that Cortana won't be easy to disable and he cannot say whether or not restores may be needed for files named in the error messages.  This site's former Commvault admin suggested this forum as a good source of information where I can find out what other admins are doing about backups of Cortana on their servers.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions, Ed

This means the file existed in the scan 0-5%, but was no longer available when the backups ran 25-85%.

Try enabling VSS for all files. This should make the snapshot the source of the backup, not the live files.
