    Hello,

I am trying to restore files from a VMWARE VSA backup. This is a restore from tape, but receive the following error.

    Steps to reproduce.

    1. I right click on the subclient, select Backup History, view all jobs.

    2. Right click on the job to restore from, select Browse and Restore, job is not aged (infinite retention).

    3. The next step, I can choose any option (Full Virtual Machine, Virtual Machine Files, Guest Files and Folders).

    4. I receive an error "No backups found for the chosen time frame."

I tried doing a catalog and merge on the tape. Same result.

Any ideas on how to fix this issue?

    Thanks,

    Lance

What happens if you try to do the same thing but from a slightly different process by right-clicking on the backupset/subclient then choosing Browse and Restore from the date that tried to restore from?  You can also enforce the restore from copy precendence from the Advanced Options Tab.  The Storage Policy Precendence number can be found by looking Storage Policy overview.

I have tried restoring using that method as well.

I tried right-clicking on the subclient->browse and restore. Selecting the copy to restore from, also widening the range by a month before and after (backup has a 3 month gap between copies), with the same result.

It's like the job history is there, but there is a corruption in the catolog.

I'm just wondering if you are seeing jobs associated with another copy. Have you tried browsing from the Storage Policy Copy - Tape to see if the jobs for the VM are there?

If I go the Storage Policy copy, right click and view jobs it is there. The job would only exist in that Storage Policy copy, as the rest of the copies have aged off. This is a copy about 17 months old with inifinite retention.

I don't believe file level restore from tape is supported for VSA.
