  • After standard retention, keep ONLY Quarterly fulls -- without a separate SP copy?

    Hi all,

We're trying to reduce our dedupe DB count, and it seems like there might be some new ways (subclient-level?) to retain stuff which might fit our needs, but the documentation is a bit confusing.

Is there a way to keep ONLY quarterly fulls for an extended period of time after the normal retention period, without creating a separate storage policy copy?

We're on SP18 hotfix pack 3, but I can update it if there's must-have functionality.

    Thanks!

    Sheree

    Hi Shree

In the Storage Policy Copy there should be options to configure longer retention (extended retention) for Fulls, on top of the standard retention

If this is a secondary copy you can leverage Selective copy to achieve this.

If you can share further details on what you would like to achieve we can see what is available to assist further

    Regards

    Winston

    Hi Winston,

The question was whether there's a way to do this without a separate Storage Policy copy.  As specified in the original question, we would like to achieve fewer DDBs.

    Thanks!

Yes you can apply extended retention rules to the primary copy.  This will allow you to "pick" specific backups from the same copy and keep them for a longer period of time.

    Setting Up Extended Retention Rules

    Configuring Extended Retention Rules

Let us know if this helps.
