    Hi,

I am planning a migration of a File server to new OS.  The plan is to attach the SAN volume to the new server.  My worry is that commvault will see this as new data and eat into my license capasity even tho the same data has previously been backed up under a different server.

As this will be a phased approach (attach 1 volume at a time) the old server will still be active so its not like i can rename the vm in commvault to keep previous backups.

    Hope this makes sence.

Is there a way around this or anyone gone through similar process?

    Thanks

You should be able to change the client\hostname of the old machine to match the new and then just install right on top of the existing client. All the backup history\schedules\etc will be intact.
