  • DR backup size increased from SP17 to SP20?

We just upgraded some Commcells from SP17 to SP20 and noticed that the size of DR backups has increased by about 25%.  Anyone else noticed this?  We normally copy the DR backup metadata to a network share, but tend to tightly manage the space for that (and other) file shares.  We've not had to expand the DR backup share in ages, but since SP20 the size of each individual DR backup has grown to the point where we've been forced to expand the file share to accomodate the multiple archival copies of the DR backups.  I'm curious if anyone has knowledge of what has changed in SP20 (or somewhere between SP17 and SP20) to account for the increased size of the DR backup.

I assume the DR backups are still smaller than the actual DB files so it would impose a structural increase of the DB size which makes sense as Commvault is storing more environmental information so feed ML/AI models but also to give back more information to the users through Command Center. Additionally the amount of features also grew which also affects the size of the DB.

But if you do not trust it than I would open a ticket and let support do some analysis.

Have you tried running Full maintenance on the DB?

Also have you tried enabling the compression on the scheduled DR job?

It was a fluke. Size went back down to normal after a few days. Why - no idea.
